And now, the dilemma may just have worsened for newly engaged couples, after research has revealed that some dates really are unluckier than others, OK! reports.

After surveying over one million couples, researchers from the University of Melbourne have revealed the days you should stay well away from if you want the marriage to last.

Rather surprisingly given its romantic connotations, Valentine's Day was one of the least successful dates of the year, with 11% of couples who said 'I do' under Cupid's watchful eye divorcing before their fifth anniversary.

Dates that were considered 'special' numerically were also unlucky, such as 1 February 2003, which is written as 01/02/03, or 9 September 1999, which is set out as 9/09/99.

Of course, the analysis didn't take other relationship factors into account, but if you're newly engaged and pondering dates perhaps bear this in mind!
