Food porn king Marks & Spencer has seen off the discounters to be crowned Supermarket of the Year by consumer watchdog Which?

The high street chain - behind a series of seductive ads featuring gooey desserts and snacks - beat off budget stores Aldi, Lidl and Iceland to win the title on Wednesday.

It also saw off rival Waitrose at the watchdog’s awards ceremony in central London where DIY store Toolstation was named Retailer of the Year.

Trendsetting technology giant Apple pipped Lenovo and Huawei as number one Computing and Mobile Brand.

Nationwide took the Bank of the Year trophy and LV= was Insurance Provider of the Year.

Ofcom boss Sharon White was honoured with the Positive Change Award for shaking up the telecoms industry from a crackdown on advertised broadband speeds to making it easier to switch mobile phone provider.
