Samsung Galaxy Note 9 unveiled at Unpacked event - with larger battery and special features

Samsung has finally unveiled its Galaxy Note 9 smartphone.

In the run-up to the event, several rumours have been circulating about the device, but now we have had the final specs and price confirmed.

The Galaxy Note 9 has everything from an all-glass front display to a rear fingerprint scanner as well as a whole range of impressive features.

The new smartphone was unveiled at Samsung's Unpacked event in New York today at 4pm BST.

Here’s everything we know so far about Samsung’s smartphone.

Price

The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 128GB unlocked price in UK £899 and Samsung Galaxy Note 9 512GB unlocked price in UK £1099 .

In comparison, the Note 8, which launched last year, costs £869.

Pre-order will open on August 9 at 5pm GMT.

With the release of the new Note 9 the price of the S9 has also been slashed.

All day battery

The Galaxy Note 9’s 4,000mAh battery is the largest ever on a flagship Galaxy phone and is designed to last all day.

By comparison, the battery inside the older Galaxy Note 8 is 3,300 mAh.

Storage

Galaxy Note9 is available with two internal storage options – 128GB or 512GB. The 512GB is double that of the Galaxy Note 8.

There's also room for a microSD card. - with the option of up to 1TB in expandable memory.

Display

The Galaxy Note 9 has an edgeless glass display, with a small speaker at the top.

The Galaxy Note 9 has the largest edge-to-edge display ever on a Note. The 6.4-inch Super AMOLED Infinity Display aims to give an immersive multimedia experience.

Galaxy Note 9’s Infinity Display is complemented by stereo speakers, which are tuned by AKG, and ability to deliver Dolby Atmos immersive audio.

Design

The handset measures 162 x 76.4 x 9mm and tips the scales at 205g.

S-Pen

The smartphone comes with an updated S-Pen stylus which lets you take selfies and group pictures, present slides, pause and play video, and more with just a single click.

Desktop delivery

Galaxy Note 9 also delivers a PC-like experience with Samsung DeX. When connected to a monitor, Galaxy Note9 can power a virtualised desktop and serve as a second screen.

Fast wireless charging and water resistant

The premium Galaxy technologies come standard with Note9: fast wireless charging, IP68 water and dust resistance and Samsung services such as Samsung Health and Samsung Pay.

Colours

The Note 9 comes in Midnight Black and Lavender Purple with a matching S Pen, and Ocean Blue with a Yellow S Pen. There's also a Metallic Copper option, but this one doesn't appear to be coming to the UK.

Security

Galaxy Note9 features Samsung’s trusted, defense-grade Knox security platform and biometric security options including fingerprint scanning just below the cameras, iris scanning and facial recognition.

Camera

The back of the smartphone has a dual-lens camera, with the two lenses laid out side-by-side, rather than vertically.

Scene Optimiser: The Galaxy Note 9’s camera uses intelligence to identify elements of a photo, such as scene and subject, to automatically classify it into one of 20 categories and optimise it based on the category.

Flaw Detection: The first shot doesn’t always come out right, so the Galaxy Note9 lets users know if there’s something wrong, so they can take another picture without losing the moment.

An immediate notification will appear if the image is blurry, the subject blinked, there is a smudge on the lens, or there’s backlight impacting the quality of the image.

Premium Camera: The camera comes with advanced noise reduction technology, and a Dual Aperture lens, which adjusts to light just like the human eye.

Rear: Dual Camera with Dual OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation)

- Wide-angle: Super Speed Dual Pixel 12MP AF, F1.5/F2.4, OIS

- Telephoto: 12MP AF, F2.4, OIS

- 2X optical zoom, up to 10X digital zoom

Front: 8MP AF, F1.7

Is there a headphone jack?

It seems to be the question everyone was asking, but yes the Galaxy Samsung Note 9 does have a headphone jack.

Key features and specs

The Galaxy Note 9 is a powerful smartphone with a 10nm processor, up to 8GB RAM, and support for the fastest network speeds (up to 1.2 gigabits per second).

Galaxy Note9 also includes an industry-leading and Samsung-developed Water Carbon Cooling system and an on-device AI-based performance adjusting algorithm.

The Note 9 also has a 6.4-inch 4K display.

Like the S9, the Note 9 also features Intelligent Scan - Samsung’s facial recognition technology similar to Apple’s FaceID.

Cases

Before the Unpacked event Note 9 cases had appeared online revealing some features. Cases are already available on mobilefun.co.uk.

Samsung also revealed its new Galaxy watch at the Unpacked event, and had already released its Galaxy Tab S4 .
