The British Fashion Council (BFC) has unveiled a new initiative that aims to help the clothing industry become more environmentally-friendly.

The organization has launched the Institute of Positive Fashion (IPF), which aims to create an "industry blueprint" and collate expertise to support brands in becoming more sustainable. "There is an urgent need for industry-wide coalition to help set industry standards in a new way, embrace innovation and develop the need for leaders to create green businesses fit for the future and enable positive change," reads a statement from the BFC.

The paper will be launched on the BFC website on September 13, the first day of London Fashion Week.

Last month, some of the biggest brands in the business threw their weight behind a 'Fashion Pact' spearheaded by François-Henri Pinault, the Chairman and CEO of the luxury conglomerate Kering, that was presented to world leaders at the G7 political meeting in Biarritz, France.
