At least five people died after a fire broke out early morning at a bar in Bengaluru's Kalasipalyam area early morning today.

All the five people were employees of the Kailash Bar and Restaurant, where the fire broke out at around 2.30 am. They were sleeping inside the premises when locals noticed smoke and fire emanating from the restaurant.

Two fire tenders and one other rescue vehicle were pressed into service and the fire was brought under control. The cause of the fire appeared to be a short-circuit, a police officer said.

The five killed in today's fire in Benglauru were identified as 23-year-old Swami, 20-year-old Prasad, 45-year-old Manjunath, 24-year-old Keerthi , and 35-year-old Mahesh. Kailash Bar and Restaurant is licensed in the name of one RV Dayashankar.

Confirming the deaths, Bengaluru's Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) M.N. Anucheth told news agency IANS that a short circuit may have caused the blaze. "Though the cause of the fire is unknown and is being investigated, a short circuit appears to have set the blaze."

"The victims were charred to death in the fire at Kailash Bar & Restaurant in the K.R. Market area between 2.30-3 a.m., while they were asleep on the ground floor of the building," Anucheth said, adding, "We have registered a negligent case against bar owner (RV Dayashankar)."
