In the 81 years since Polaroid originally launched, there are few things more satisfying than seeing the camera work its magic and instantly produce an image in that iconic Polaroid style.

The beloved camera company, known for its distinct analogue style, is adding another string to its bow in the form of its new device: the OneStep+ camera.

Announced today at IFA, the Berlin consumer tech conference, the OneStep+ camera is an upgrade on last year’s OneStep 2. The new camera has even more features and works with the new Polaroid Originals app so you can get even more out of your photography.

The camera is fitted with a portrait lens feature for the first time, allowing photographers to shoot from as close as one foot away, to create that perfect close-up portrait.

However, it’s the collaboration with the Polaroid Originals app where things get really snazzy. Connecting the camera to your smartphone via Bluetooth, the app unlocks six new features for the device.

There’s double exposure, allowing you to capture two photos in a single frame to create surreal images. The interesting Light Painting feature follows a light source and turns it into your paintbrush, and it’s truly magical.

One of the most exciting features is the noise trigger. You can adjust the settings so a clap of your hands will trigger the shutter, catching an action shot.

Not only that, there is also a self-timer feature, a remote trigger feature - where you use the app to take a photo on your Polaroid for group shots - and manual mode.

Once you’ve taken all these interesting and cool photos, you’ll probably want to upload them to social media or in the Polaroid Originals app to share with friends and family. Do so and using the app’s scanner, it will intuitively identify your photo, correct the glares and crop it, so you can share the picture straight away.

Polaroid also hopes the new Originals app will develop like a photo social network, bringing together Polaroid fans from across the globe to share their images. It will also feature tips and articles on how to achieve the best pictures with your camera.

It’s a delightful pairing of digital and Polaroid, and undoubtedly delivers 'must-have' status to this unique instant camera.

The Polaroid Originals OneStep+ camera is now available at and from wider retailers, priced at £149.99. The free Polaroid Originals App can now be downloaded from both Google Play and App Store.
