'Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret' by Judy Blume (1970)

The young adult novel revolves around a sixth-grader who grows up without a religious affiliation and deals with teenage issues such as puberty and attraction to the opposite gender. In 1980, the book was banned from elementary school libraries in Gilbert, Arizona, U.S. In 1983, it was made available only to students with parental permission in Zimmerman, Minnesota, U.S. The book was also challenged by several schools in the American states of Alabama, Wisconsin and Montana in the 1980s.
