The man who filmed Jamie Carragher spitting while at the wheel of his car will not be prosecuted, he has revealed.

Andy Hughes, 42, caught the Sky Sports pundit as he spat towards his car while his 14-year-old daughter was sat in the passenger seat following Liverpool's 2-1 loss to rivals Manchester United on Saturday.

Today Mr Hughes was visited by two policemen to discuss him using the device at the wheel but he said he will not face prosecution.

He told the Mirror: "The came down to give me some advice. They asked me to contact them which I did immediately.

"They (the police) came down and told me, in a very serious fashion, that using your phone while in a car obviously has serious consquences.

They understood I was parked - it was bumper to bumper - that's something else that was upsetting.

"People are saying 'he should go to jail because he was driving like a lunatic' but the car was basically stopped.

"I still obviously realise that when you are in your car with the engine running you don't use your phone. It was a mistake and I'm human. It was a bit of exctement which got out of hand."

Explaining why he used his phone while driving, he said: “When you see someone off the telly you get a bit giddy.

I just wanted to have a laugh with him because he comes across as a very amiable guy.”

Mr Hughes went public tonight as he revealed the row involving the shamed footie pundit had seen him targeted with death threats from vile trolls.

He has appealed through the Mirror for the abuse to stop, for the sake of his family.

The spittle hit Andy’s daughter, whose identity we are protecting, in the face.

Carragher claims he saw red after Andy goaded him over the loss.

The ex-footballer rang the family to apologise on Sunday and called again on Monday.
