Easter lockdown rules: When will Easter rules come in?

Daily Express logo Daily Express 3 days ago Liam Doyle

Easter lockdown rules will hit different next month as the Government aims to restore some limited freedoms people lost in January. Boris Johnson will make an address in Parliament this afternoon, in which he will detail a "roadmap" out of the UK's current situation. The plans show building towards easter is a slow and painstaking process that depends on the UK's Covid situation.

When will the Easter rules come in?

The Prime Minister will make his statement on the state of the lockdown in Parliament at 3.30pm.

Then, he will reveal his four-step plan for guiding the country out of measures and towards relative normality.

Downing Street has detailed the first of the four phases, and Mr Johnson will expand on the others in the House of Commons.

The first part of the first phase will take effect on March 8.

Then, all children can return to school, and people can interact outdoors once more.

New measures will allow people to sit down on a bench with a friend or family member for a drink or picnic.

The most significant change will come three weeks later, on March 29, when the Easter holidays begin.

With children off school once again, people can meet up for more outdoor social conduct.

The return of the rule of six will allow up to six households to meet up and mix outside.

They can choose either public or private places, providing they stay in the open air.

Two households of any size may meet outside under the same circumstances.

People can also celebrate the return of sports from March 29.

The Government will allow people to gather for non-elite sports.

The rules will include gathering for organised adult and youth grassroots sports and use other sporting facilities.

Listed facilities include golf courses and tennis and basketball courts.

Before the Government moves on to the next step of easing lockdown, it will consider the following variables, according to Number 10:

  • Success of the vaccine deployment programme
  • Evidence of vaccine efficacy on hospitalisation and death rates
  • Infection rates and their pressure on the NHS
  • Covid variants and whether they change Government assessments
