James Goddard: Yellow vest activist 'arrested on public order offence' in London

'Yellow vest' campaigner James Goddard has reportedly been arrested by police in London on suspicion of a public order offence.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that a man was arrested outside St James Park tube station at around 11.45am on Saturday.

Mr Goddard's supporters claimed he was about to hand himself in at Holborn police station at midday, according to BBC journalist Daniel Sandford.

A group of protesters wearing yellow vests were pictured outside the underground station around the time of the arrest.

A spokeswoman for the Met said in a statement: "We can confirm that a man in his 30s was arrested at 11.42hrs on Saturday, January 12 outside St James Park tube station on suspicion of a public order offence.

"He is currently in police custody and is being taken to a central London police station."
