Bidhya Sagar Das, 33, is being held in custody and will appear before Thames Magistrates' Court later today, police confirmed.

Das, a hotel receptionist and thought to be the children's father, was arrested at 7.15pm on Sunday in Hackney following a police manhunt.

Officers were called to a flat in Wilberforce Road, near Finsbury Park, north London at 11.10pm on Saturday to reports of two injured children in what is believed to be a "domestic incident".

A post-mortem will take place "in due course".

Detective Chief Inspector Dave Whellams, of the Homicide and Major Crime Command, said: "This is clearly a tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the family of the two young children.

"Despite the best efforts of medical professionals a baby boy sadly died in the early hours of this morning."

"Whilst we remain in the early stages of the investigation, a man has now been arrested.

"I would still like to hear from anyone who may have any information regarding this terrible incident.”
