Woman, 60, punched in face as she walked to work in Chester

A 60-year-old woman has been punched in the face during a terrifying robbery in Chester. The woman was making her way to work through Caldy Valley Nature Park in Great Broughton when she was attacked by a man.

The brutal attack, which left the woman understandably shaken, happened at around 7.30am on Wednesday, August 3, with the robber escaping with a quantity of cash after taking the contents of the woman's handbag.

Police said the robber then fled the scene and they are now appealing for anyone with information to get in touch. They have also spoken out to reassure residents that they stepped up patrols following the incident as they track down the man in question.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: "At around 7.30am on Wednesday 3 August, a 60-year-old woman was walking to work when a man approached her in Caldy Valley Nature Park, Great Boughton.

"The man punched the victim to the face and proceeded to take the contents of her handbag before fleeing the scene. A quantity of cash was stolen from the handbag."

Detective Constable Natalie Willis said: “This terrifying ordeal has left the victim understandably shaken and we are committed to doing all we can to identify the man responsible. I understand that this incident will be a cause for concern to those in the local community, but I want to reassure you that we are doing all we can to find who is responsible.

“Patrols have been stepped up over recent days and enquiries are ongoing to establish the identity of the suspect. As part of our ongoing investigation, we are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and believes they may have seen something suspicious.

“We are also appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or may have dashcam footage in the area around the time of the assault to get in touch with us.”
