Audi Unveil Activesphere - An Off-Roader Of The Future
Audi chiefs have unveiled the 'activesphere' concept - a technologically astounding off-road coupé of the future. As the fourth model in the series, the Audi activesphere concept marks the culmination of the firm's 'sphere' concept cars. It follows the skysphere roadster, grandsphere sedan, and urbansphere space concept in the series. Standing 4.98 meters long, the highly elegant car is more than a mere luxury-class sports utility car - it has impressive ground clearance and large 22-inch wheels announcing its off-road credentials. The Sportback rear of the activesphere can turn into an open cargo bedat the touch of a button – perfect for carrying recreational equipment such as e-bikes or water and winter sports gear. The steering wheel and pedals allow the driver to actively control the car, while also offering autonomous driving for a more relaxed time on the road. It gives off no local emissions, and would have a range of over 600 km, as well as extremely fast charging times thanks to 800-volt technology. The biggest technical innovation in the Audi activesphere, however, is its use of augmented reality. High-tech headsets provide a view of the real environment and the route, while simultaneously displaying 3D content and interactive elements– individually configurable for drivers and passengers. Sadly the activesphere is only a concept car at this stage - meaning it, or similar models, won't be available to customers for a while yet.
