BBC unveils unseen footage of the Queen
A series of preview clips have been released ahead of the airing of a BBC documentary which features never-before-seen footage of the Queen taken from her personal archive. The footage includes: Balmoral featuring the Queen - then Princess Elizabeth - with Princess Margaret and their parents on holiday in the late 1930s. And clips from South Africa when the royal family relaxed on board the Royal Navy’s latest battleship, HMS Vanguard, in 1947, the vessel which took them to and from South Africa for their February-April tour. The extracts of the Queen's speeches used in the clip are from her 1996 Christmas broadcast, and also her address at the Guildhall on June 11 1947, a couple of months after returning from Africa.
