Harry Kane will be included in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the Nations League, despite not being fit.

England manager Southgate names his squad for the June finals on Thursday and has decided to take a chance on Tottenham Hotspur star Kane.

The striker is recovering from ankle ligament damage and is currently trying to be fit in time for Tottenham’s Champions League final against Liverpool on June 1.

England play their Nations League semi-final against Holland five days later in Portugal on Thursday, June 6.

Just as he is determined to do everything in his power to be fit for the Champions League final, Kane is desperate to try to help England win silverware in the Nations League.

Asked in March whether there was any way this summer could be better than last, when England reached the semi-finals of the World Cup, Kane said: “Hopefully we can win some silverware. If we win the Nations League, 2019 will top it. I have said before, to have a chance to win a trophy in an England shirt does not come around very often.

“If we have a good summer and win that trophy, in my eyes, it is a better year. Of course, 2018 was fantastic, but for me, the main thing is the team and we want to win things.”

Kane will start training on grass this week and is expected to do some ball work by the weekend, as long as his recovery continues to go to plan.

Southgate is set to name a big squad on Thursday because of the involvement of the Tottenham and Liverpool players in the Champions League final.

But Uefa have insisted Southgate must trim his squad down to 23 by May 27, leaving him worrying over the fitness of a number of his key players in the Madrid final.
