Bayern boss Niko Kovac has poured cold water over claims that James Rodriguez could be heading for Arsenal.

Speaking about the midfielder’s future, as reported by TEAMtalk, Kovac talked up the player’s role at Bayern ahead of the second half of the season.

“He wants to stay with FC Bayern, as he once said during a fan club visit, he is highly motivated and focused. He can always help us with his quality.”

It had been widely reported that Bayern were looking to cut the player’s loan deal short, in a move that could see him end up at Arsenal.

Reports suggested that Arsenal could land the player on loan for the rest of the season if they paid the remaining £3 million fee that was owed to Real Madrid.

With Mesut Ozil also being linked with moves away, it seemed that Rodriguez could replace the German at the Emirates.

Rodriguez has endured a turbulent season under Kovac and has been in and out of the side.

After enjoying his first season in the Bundesliga, the Colombian is now unlikely to complete a permanent transfer to Bayern.
