Liverpool are reportedly close to finalising a deal for Roma winger Mohamed Salah and the player could even undergo a medical later on this week.

The Reds have been publicly chasing the Egyptian international for several weeks now and are understood to have had a £28m offer rejected by his club, who are thought to want as much as £40m for his signature.

With negotiations taking place for several weeks, Salah's agent Remy Abbas denounced rumours that a deal was all but complete on Sunday. However, the agent's tweet hasn't stopped Goal among others from reporting that a deal is now close, after both clubs appear to have found a compromise that they can agree on.

It is likely that Liverpool will increase their initial bid by as much as £7m and submit and improved offer of £35m, however, that will likely rise in time as Roma will insist on including add-ons into his contract that will mean that they could receive their £40m.

Salah is understood to be keen on moving to Anfield having admired the Reds for a long time and has even been rumoured to have agreed personal terms with the club.

Should a deal finally be struck in the new few days, then the 25-year-old could potentially undergo a medical this week, as an agreement between Liverpool and Roma is currently the only thing preventing the transfer from happening.

Salah scored 19 goals and contributed 12 assists for the Giallorossi last season and his sparkling form is one of the main reasons why Liverpool are so desperate to complete a deal and bring him back to the Premier League this summer.
