Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech is not interested in a loan move to Napoli, despite appearing to lose his place as the first-choice goalkeeper.

Calcio Mercato reports that the player has turned down a move to Italy, despite contrasting reports.

There had been some suggestions that the former Chelsea player would link up with ex-Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti in Naples following the arrival of Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen.

Napoli are in the market for a new goalkeeper and will now pursue deals for Alex Meret or Paris Saint-Germain’s Alphonse Areola, a previous target for Arsenal.

The Gunners confirmed the signing of the German international on Tuesday and Cech now looks set to become Arsenal’s number two.

The 36-year-old now faces the prospect of seeing limited first-team football at the Emirates during the latter stages of his career.

Large sections of the Arsenal supporters were calling for him to be replaced as number one this summer following some high-profile errors last season.
