Sir Kenny Dalglish has claimed that are few, if any, better left-backs in the world than Andy Robertson after the Reds’ star committed his future to the club by signing a new contract last week.

Robertson has enjoyed an amazing 2018/19 season so far, proving himself to be one of the most consistent players in the Liverpool squad. The Scotland captain already has more assists (seven) than he managed to get during his first year at the club and his performances have gone from strength to strength.

Writing in his column for the Sunday Post, Dalglish was keen to praise his fellow Scot and said there aren’t many, if any, better left-backs around at the moment.

He said:

“I have to admit I’m delighted to see [Andy] commit his future to Liverpool. For me, there are few, if any, better than him in his position. He has excellent fitness, delivers inviting crosses into the box and gets assists. But he can also defend at the other end, as you have to be able to do to be playing in the current Liverpool team. Perhaps Andy’s ability, positional sense and tackling prowess are overlooked because of what he brings in the final third. But, make no mistake, he is as effective in one half of the pitch as he is in the other.”

Robertson put pen-to-paper on a five-year contract last week, thus committing himself to Liverpool for the peak of his career and he, along with Dalglish, will hope that the left-back will celebrate winning plenty of silverware during those years at the club.
