In his first start for his new club, Christian Ramirez scored twice in the opening 30 minutes of LAFC’s 2-0 victory over Real Salt Lake (RSL). Ramirez joined LAFC just over a week ago and made a 21-minute substitute appearance last Saturday against Sporting Kansas City. He almost had a hat-trick within the first half hour, however, a delayed offside was called on Carlos Vela.

Minutes later, Ramirez put LAFC on the board with a beautiful finish curling it past RSL keeper Nick Rimando with the outside of his foot.

Then, at the half-hour mark, a low cross found its way to Ramirez who had an easy finish to complete his brace.

Ramirez is originally from Santa Ana, California, about 53 kilometers south of Los Angeles. After a few years in the lower divisions of U.S. Soccer, Ramirez found himself at Minnesota United FC who joined Major League Soccer last year. After scoring 21 goals in 50 MLS appearances for the club, he was traded to LAFC last week for up to $1,000,000 in allocation money.

LAFC supporters and players will no doubt be excited to have Ramirez in the lineup as the MLS Cup Playoffs aren’t far away. With the 2-0 win today, the club moves up to third in the Western Conference just three points off the top spot.
