Elliot Daly has made a near-miraculous recovery from injury and starts for England against Argentina on Saturday.

The Lions winger was expected to miss the entire autumn series after damaging knee ligaments less than a fortnight ago.

He did not travel to England’s training camp in Portugal yet the 25-year-old South Londoner is today handed the No.11 jersey to face the Pumas at Twickenham.

Head coach Eddie Jones has chosen to rest star duo Owen Farrell and Maro Itoje ahead of next weekend’s Australia showdown, as revealed in today’s Mirror.

Henry Slade, so impressive for champions Exeter this season, comes in at inside-centre, whilst Courtney Lawes partners George Kruis in the second row.

Jones said: “This is our best 23 selected in what is our most important game this year. We know that Argentina is a strong team - Rugby World Cup semi-finalists in 2015 – and we will have to be smart and play well to beat them.”

In all seven of the players that started England’s last Test, against Argentina in June, keep their places.
