Jordan Henderson is set to join an expert panel that will shape the FA’s new Football Leadership Diversity Code, with the aim of accelerating diversity in positions of power within the national game.

Led by Paul Elliott, the chair of the FA's inclusion advisory board, the objective of the scheme is to make all areas of football, including boardrooms and managerial positions, more representative of the game.

It is something that black footballers like former Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling have highlighted as being important in recent months.

Harry Kane, Troy Deeney, Tyrone Mings, Wes Morgan, Lucy Bronze, Nikita Parris and Leah Williamson will join Henderson in providing guidance for the code, which is expected to launch in October this year.

There are four other panels, which include personnel from clubs, grassroots level, media and coaches as the FA seeks to take action on diversity.

According to the Independent, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City have already shown a willingness to subscribe to the voluntary code.

Premier League players took the knee at the start of each match during Project Restart as they showed solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement.

FA chairman Greg Clarke said this week: "We all share the same desire to see English football take a lead role in ensuring our game is inclusive – most notably in leadership positions in football.

"The FA, Premier League and EFL are all committed to making further significant progress on diversity and inclusion."

Those comments came after a proposal to add Elliott to the FA's board was blocked. Elliott, the man in charge of leading the diversity code, would have become the first black board member at the FA.
