Ryan Christie believes he has learned a great deal from former Celtic forward Moussa Dembele.

Having spent the last 18 months on loan at Aberdeen, Christie believes the departure of Dembele may have given him a golden opportunity to prove his worth to Brendan Rodgers.

Speaking to the Daily Record, Christie said:

“This season can help nail down my future at Celtic and breaking into the team is all I’ve been thinking about. I’d be delighted if I can stay long term but first things first, I need to play more games.”

“It sounds a bit selfish but I’m hoping Moussa leaving opens up an opportunity for me and it’s then up to me to take it.”

“I wasn’t exactly pushing him out of the door last week – he’s a big lad – but I wish him all the best!”

Christie recognised the congestion of fixtures due to Celtic’s spot in the Europa League would lead to a greater use of the squad’s depth.

“A lot of people speak about the number of games we have to play and we’re delighted to be in the Europa League but that means another six midweek matches.”

“I’m sure the manager will be calling on everyone in the squad so then it will be down to what I do.”
