Chelsea sanctioned the departure of Fabregas to struggling Ligue 1 club Monaco this week, with the Spaniard signing a three-and-a-half-year deal with Thierry Henry's side.

Fabregas, whose contract at Stamford Bridge was due to expire this summer, decided against staying at Chelsea due to the club's policy of only offering players over the age of 30 a one-year deal.

Chelsea are believed to be looking at Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella and Zenit St Petersburg's Leandro Paredes as potential replacements for Fabregas.

But with the World Cup winner joining Monaco on Friday, Sarri had just one player - Jorginho - able to play in central midfield for the visit of Newcastle on Saturday.

"Today Jorginho was in trouble and, on the bench, there wasn't a player for that position," Sarri told reporters at Stamford Bridge.

"I need an option for Jorginho."

When then asked if Chelsea are close to signing a replacement for Fabregas, Sarri replied: "I have no idea.

"Not too much (of a worry). The club is worried, I don't know. The club knows very well my opinion.
