Watford head coach Javi Gracia is to sign a new three-year contract at Vicarage Road.

The 48-year-old Spaniard is in the final year of his contract and Watford are ready to reward him for their strong start to the new season.

Owner Gino Pozzo and chief executive Scott Duxbury have been impressed with the job Gracia has done since taking over from Marco Silva in January.

Gracia kept Watford up last season and the Hornets made a good start to this season, winning their first four games — including beating Tottenham 2-1 at Vicarage Road.

They were level with Chelsea and Liverpool at the top of the Premier League after four games but three defeats in four matches since has seen them slip to ninth.

A new contract will end any uncertainty around Gracia’s future and Watford hope the three-year deal will bring them managerial stability.

Gracia is the 10th manager at Vicarage Road since the Pozzo family bought the club in 2010 and it is hoped some continuity will help Watford establish themselves in the top half of the League.

Gracia is getting the best out of captain Troy Deeney and is a popular among the players.

Watford lost 4-0 at home to Bournemouth on Saturday but Gracia hopes they can get back on track away at high-flying Wolves following the international break.
