World No 1 Simona Halep recovered from a set down to beat Duan Ying-Ying in the second round of the Shenzhen Open and secure top seeding for this month's Australian Open.

Halep's comeback saw the Romanian get past her Chinese opponent 3-6 6-1 6-2, setting up a last-eight meeting with Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus.

Halep told the official WTA website after the win: "I'm not thinking about the ranking, I'm not thinking about the Australian Open.

"I will just keep the same routine and same things to do. I'm just thinking about the match [on Thursday]. I want to be focused just here."

Along with Halep, others progressing to the quarter-finals were compatriot Irina-Camelia Begu - scheduled to take on Timea Babos next - and Czech pair Katerina Siniakova and Kristyna Pliskova, who will face each other.

At the ASB Classic in Auckland, world No 3 and top seed Caroline Wozniacki moved into the quarter-finals with a 6-2 6-2 triumph over Croatian Petra Martic.

The Dane's next opponent will be Sofia Kenin, who beat fellow American Varvara Lepchenko in round two.

Wozniacki's fellow seeds in action on Wednesday - Julia Goerges (two), Barbora Strycova (three) and Agnieszka Radwanska (four) - also made it through.
