Taskmaster spoilers follow.

Taskmaster: Champion of Champions contestant Ed Gamble has wowed viewers with an awe-inducing response to a challenge.

For their first tasks tonight (June 23), returning champions Richard Herring, Liza Tarbuck, Kerry Godliman, Lou Sanders and Gamble had to surprise Greg Davies and Alex Horne by bringing "the best thing to make you go WOW!" into the studio.

While Sanders and Herring played it relatively safe with a human heart in a jar and a Pompeii holiday, Gamble went all in by sending his trophy to space.

"I thought I'd bring my trophy in, but we all got one," the comedian explained, before adding that he "wanted to make mine better than anyone else's".

"I sent it to space," he then said, presenting a video of a golden Greg head tied to a balloon and going up into the sky at a velocity of 150mph.

As for the others, After Life star Godliman cleverly tricked Davies and the audience with a self-written play in which everyone's line was "wow," while Tarbuck brought a picture of her with David Bowie and Johnny Vaughan ("a hell of a sandwich!").

But not even the Starman himself had something on Gamble's trophy space escapade, which, of course, won the five points.

"My head in space takes the big five," Davies commented.

Despite kicking things off with a stellar start, Gamble ranked last with just 11 points, while Sanders and Godliman scored 12 points each, preceded by Tarbuck, who earned 14 points.

With 17 points, it was Herring who took home the Champion of Champions golden full-body statue on which to put his original head trophy.

Taskmaster airs on Channel 4. Series 14 has been confirmed.
