Camden aims high

This is also a time for ambitious dreams and plans for what kind of city we want to live in for the next century.

One wholly exciting and imaginative example of this is the Camden High Line, a £35million project that would see a three-quarter mile stretch of disused railways transformed into a linear park above Camden.

It is based on the hugely successful New York High Line, which opened in 2009. The London version would stretch from Camden Gardens near Camden Town station to York Way by King’s Cross. It could potentially be extended into Islington.

The project has now garnered support from the Mayor of London and the local MP, who also happens to be the Labour leader. But it is also an example of a bottom-up approach, being first championed by local paper the Kentishtowner and the community.

Brilliant, innovative ideas, communities, businesses and politicians coming together to create something new and special in the capital is exactly what we need.
