TUI, easyJet and Jet2 have been quick to respond to the new travel restrictions issued by the Government yesterday. May 17 is set to be the day that international travel can return, although this date is subject to review. The three major low-cost tour operators have since cancelled all holidays and flights until that date. This is what you need to know.

TUI

TUI has cancelled all holidays until March 18.

"In line with the UK Government's latest lockdown announcement, all TUI holidays from England will not operate before May 17," said TUI in its Government roadmap update issued yesterday.

"We will be contacting impacted customers directly, in departure date order, over the next two weeks to discuss their options, which will include amending to a later date with an incentive, receiving a refund credit note with an incentive or cancelling and receiving a full refund."

The TUI statement continued: "Due to the high volume of customers that are impacted we kindly ask that you wait until you receive the email from us before getting in touch.

"We know our customers are looking forward to their holidays, so to offer continued flexibility and reassurance, we have extended our free changes policy to the end of June.

"Those due to travel between May 17 and the end of June can change their booking to a later date fee-free.

"We'd like to thank our customers for their continued patience and understanding."

easyJet

easyJet has also made many cancellations in response to the news from the Government.

The tour operator has also launched is spring 2022 sale today.

"As we have done throughout the pandemic, we continue to review and adjust our flying schedule in line with the latest Government travel restrictions," said easyJet.

"This means that as the UK government has indicated that international travel will not return before mid-May we are now making cancellations for that period.

"For flights that are cancelled customers will be notified directly and provided with their options, which include transferring to an alternative flight free of charge, a voucher for the value of the booking, or a refund. "

easyJet added: "Customers can of course move their flights now as well under our flexible customer policy.

"And for those wishing to rebook for next spring, we also have put flights on sale for the period from March 27 until May 31, 2022 today in order to provide customers with even more choice.

Jet2

Jet2 has axed flights and holidays until March 17.

The holiday company said in a statement today: "The UK government announced that travel will not return until May 17 at the earliest, so Jet2.com and Jet2holidays have taken the decision to extend the suspension of flights and holidays up to and including May 16.

"Where customers yet to travel are affected by any programme changes, Jet2.com and Jet2holidays will automatically cancel their booking with a full refund, and their team of travel experts will be in touch to help them to book their summer getaway for later in the year."

Interestingly, despite these cancellations, Jet2 has noted a dramatic spike in holiday bookings.

"Data from Jet2.com and Jet2holidays shows that Summer 21 bookings have increased 600 percent since 15.30 on Monday, February 22, with bookings surging for destinations across the board including Mainland Spain and its islands, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus and Turkey," said Jet2 in the statement.

"There is a notable increase in bookings from July, which continues through the rest of the school holidays and Summer 21."
