Seriously, here at EVOKE.ie, we go to bed dreaming of our morning fix. From scrumptious granola’s and muesli’s, to avocado and eggs (if we’re feeling fancy)… and then there’s the holy grail of breakfast dining- THE FRY.

And now, our favourite indulgence has got better than ever with news of nitrite-free rashers hitting supermarket shelves.

Considered as dangerous as asbestos and smoking, nitrite has been getting a bad rap in the press for a long time. The World Health Organisation have been particularly vocal about nitrites as they produce carcinogenic nitrosamines when ingested. They’ve warned that eating traditional nitrite-cured meat such as bacon on a regular basis can increase risk of bowel cancer by 18%.

However, rasher lovers need not despair as a nitrite-free bacon is now hitting our supermarket shelves for the first time.

Enter Naked Bacon, produced by Northern Irish company, Finnebrogue Artisan. 

For years, nitrite has been used in the production of cured meats to give meat its characteristic pink colour, texture and some flavour; the chemical is also used as a preservative. However, Finnerbrogue are changing things up in an effort to revolutionise Irish breakfast for a guilt free, worry-free indulgence.

Their completely natural, nitrite-free rashers are produced from Mediterranean fruit and spice extracts and is the result of 10 years of research and development. It is the first mass-produced rasher made without the cancer-causing chemicals and will be available in 75 Tesco stores around the country from today.
