Bringing a more literal twist to our favourite social media stalking game of 'Instagram vs real life' is the latest make-up trend taking the internet by storm.

Calling bull**** on the age old (ok, since Instagram existed) idea that next level rainbow cut creases worthy of a Drag Race winner might involve more than just self-taught skill with an eyeshadow palette (*cough* photoshopping *cough*), 'Instagram vs real life' make-up is the most self aware beauty trend yet.

Pioneered by vlogger Dominic Porras, 'Instagram vs real life' make-up works like this: you create a totally outlandish OTT Insta-worthy make-up look on one part of your face (multi-coloured smokey eyes are a fave) and outline it with a photo-realistic Instagram frame, leaving the rest of your face au naturel.

The result? A mind boggling meta make-up look that mimics a real life Instagram another selfie.

Porras captioned his trend-setting half-bronzed, half-bare make-up look 'Picture perfect', playing on the idea that the flawless selfies that flood your feed are far more than 'I woke up like this' poreless skin and a dash of concealer.

In fact, often it's hours of dedication, an arsenal of ring lights and a whole lot of make-up (not to mention a healthy dose of post-editing) required to nail that 'picture perfect' selfie.

Although we love a fun and OTT make-up trend (oh hey splatter brows), they can also be a source of damaging comparison-making, with us often left asking 'why don't I look like that?' So, any social media beauty trend determined to shatter the 'this took me two minutes' Insta illusion is a make-up movement we can get on board with.

And it looks pretty epic too.

You don’t have to be picture perfect. Good morning. this was their idea first : @dom.skii @abbyrobertsartistry
