Dublin has been rated one of the greenest cities on the planet thanks to the acres of parks in the centre of the capital.

A new study ranks the Irish city at number six in the ratings of the world’s cities with the best parks.

The Phoenix Park – which is twice the size of New York’s Central Park – is the biggest enclosed park in any European capital.

Dublin also boasts St Anne’s Park which was once owned by the Guinness family along with St Stephen’s Green in the heart of the city.

Paris came at the top of the table with 139 parks, while San Francisco was in second place with 53 outdoor spaces.

The study by TravelSupermarket placed the capital ahead of New York and Los Angeles in the table which ranked each city by the provision of outdoor spaces for its visitors.

“There are great places for locals as well as fitness-mad holidaymakers to keep on top of their exercise.

“This means destinations will have to consider the needs and cater for the lifestyles of health conscious travellers.”

Barcelona came in the top spot with 1,368 vegan option restaurants and Ireland was ranked in ninth place with 528 restaurants with options of plant-based dishes.

Overall, the study ranked Dublin as the 22nd healthiest city in the world.
