A Dublin toddler who was on life support after an alleged assault in her home at the weekend has died.

The three-year-old had been in the intensive care unit of Our Lady’s Hospital in Crumlin in Dublin following the incident at her home on Saturday afternoon.

Gardai performed life-saving CPR on the little girl after receiving a call from a house in Shankill in County Dublin.

One neighbour spoke of their horror, saying: ‘You hear people say it on the news ––“Nothing ever happens here” — and now we know what it’s like.

‘I was just watching TV and heard all the commotion, with Garda cars, the Armed Support Unit, the fire brigade and paramedics.

‘They are nice, quiet people. No one seems to know too much about them.’

A 42-year-old woman was charged with assault when she appeared at a special sitting of Bray District Court on Sunday evening.

She was charged with assault causing harm to the child under the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act.

The woman was remanded in custody and is due to appear again at Bray District Court on Thursday morning.
