Carole Sparrow is trying to find her Irish relatives Carole Sparrow is trying to find her Irish relatives A woman is appealing for help finding out information about her Irish birth mother, saying: "I just want to know more about her."

Carole Sparrow was born in London in 1944 and was adopted the following year.

She was told that she was adopted she was 13 and said that she has always been curious to learn more about her mother.

She told Independent.ie: "I found out I was adopted when I was 13, it didn't really mean anything at the time but when I was in school and other people would mention their families I would feel a little lost.

"I've always been curious about my mum but I didn't want to upset my adoptive parents.

"I had a lovely home life, I couldn't have asked for any better.

"They're gone now though and I have grown-up children and grandchildren so in a way I'm doing it for them too, so they'll know where they come from."

Carole, who lives in Bournemouth in the UK, went online to find out more and discovered her mum was called Mary O'Donoghue, who was born in 1920 in Clogheen, Co Tipperary to a couple called Bridget and John.

Mary went on to marry a Canadian serviceman in 1943 but Carole has drawn a blank from there.

She said: "I joined Ancestry.com and I was speaking to an American woman who thinks her great-uncle may have been my father.

"I also did a DNA test that proved I'm 78 per cent Irish and 22pc British.

"I went to Dublin in June and spent two hours in the National Library trying to find out more."

Carole (72) said she would love to hear from some of her Irish relatives.

She said: "I just want to know what happened to my mum and why was she in London in the first place, why would she have moved to a war-torn city?
"I want to know what she looked like and what she did do after I was born?"

Anyone with any information is urged to contact Carole by email casparrow@outlook.com.
