Threat of snow across entire country amid substantial drop in temperatures

Met Eireann are predicting we’re going to be hit by snowfall starting next week.

Saturday and Sunday are expected to be mostly wet days, with temperatures only dropping ranging between four and 10 degrees over the course of the two days.

Monday is when things will take a turn for the worst, as temperatures look likely to plummet bringing about snow.

In their its latest forecast Met Eireann said: ‘Rain will clear eastwards during Monday morning and colder showery conditions will follow in the afternoon.

‘Mid afternoon temperatures ranging from four or five degrees in the North to nine or 10 in southern areas, but temperatures falling through the afternoon. 

‘Very cold and very windy on Monday night with showers turning increasingly wintry in western and northwestern counties with gale force westerly winds. Showers should be well scattered in eastern areas.

‘Overnight lows of 0 to 2 degrees Celsius with frost anywhere sheltered from the wind.’

By Tuesday and Wednesday Met Eireann predicts that there is the possibility of very changeable weather.

‘Many of the showers will be wintry with falls of sleet and snow expected especially in western and northern counties, where some accumulations are likely, hail and isolated thunderstorms in places also,’ the forecaster added.

Nighttime temperatures midweek are expected to fall to around minus one with tough conditions likely lasting through to the end of the week.
