Tributes for teacher who died saving girl, 6, from being hit by car

Dawn Croke, who taught at Rosses Community School in Donegal saved her partner’s six-year-old daughter from being hit by a 4×4 on Thursday.

The mother-of-two sons pushed the young girl out of the way of the vehicle when it came towards them in the grounds of St Crona’s National School in Dungloe.

The young girl is being treated in hospital for serious injuries following the unfortunate collision, but she is expected to recover fully.

Colleagues, friends and family have since shared tributes to the hero teacher for her actions earlier this week.

‘Dawn Croke was simply a lady and no superlatives can describe her. Above all, she was a great mother and a truly great family person.’

‘To all of us who had the privilege of knowing her, she will be sadly missed but she will never be forgotten.’

A third wrote on Facebook: ‘It was a pleasure to have known and worked with her. Rip Dawn.’

‘I had the privilege of being a Mary alongside her in 2008 and she was truly such a genuine, beautiful woman inside and out. May she Rest In Peace.’
