Temporary traffic measures were put in place on Clancy Strand while the woman was being rescued.

Members of the gardaĆ­, ambulance services and the fire brigade attended the scene to coax the woman down.

She was assisted down and was seen sitting facing the River Shannon shortly afterwards.

A garda spokeswoman told The Irish Mirror: "A woman climbed up but she was taken down by Ambulance Services. GardaĆ­ attended but no offence disclosed."

It's understood she is now receiving medical treatment.
