The heart of a queen

A 16th-century gold case (pictured), containing the heart of Queen Anne of Brittany, was stolen from the Musée Dobrée museum in Nantes, France, in April 2018. The six-inch oval case was removed by the robbers, despite setting off an alarm. The reliquary, which dates back to the French Revolution, was on display at the museum for over 130 years. Within a week, the police were able to recover the item along with a statuette and gold coins from an undisclosed location in the commune of Saint-Nazaire. Two men were arrested and charged with “association with criminals” and “theft of cultural assets.”
