Paddy Jackson will be paid most of what remained of his contract by the IRFU, it has been reported.

The IRFU has reached a "compromise agreement" that will see the outhalf walk away from the club with a payment "close to his contract value", according to the Sunday Independent.

The 26-year-old was unanimously acquitted of rape and sexual assault last month.

Stuart Olding, also found not guilty in the trial, will be compensated for his contract as well.

It is reported that the pair wanted to avoid a "drawn-out disciplinary process" and instead decided on a mutual termination of their contracts.

The amounts are set to remain confidential, but it is believed both players were on contracts of between €100,000 and €300,000 a year.

The IRFU told the Sunday Independent: "The substantive issue here is that the players' contracts have been revoked with immediate effect, beyond that we have no further comment to make."

The settlement will be welcomed by Jackson, who is bidding to recover legal costs from his rape trial - thought to be in excess of £100,000.

Meanwhile, the Northern Irishman is said to be courting several clubs in the UK and France.

While reports indicate that some have turned up their noses to the player, other Premiership and Top 14 clubs are believed to be in the race for his signature.
