Ada Lovelace (1815-52)

The countess of Lovelace was a gifted mathematician and the earliest computer programmer in the world. The first to realize the true potential of Charles Babbage’s proposed mechanical computer beyond pure calculations, she wrote the first algorithm to be carried out by his mechanical general-purpose computer, Analytical Engine – considered the world’s first computer program.
