Dozens of people have been killed in a series of Easter Sunday explosions targeting churches and hotels in Sri Lanka.

The near-simultaneous blasts, two of which were suspected to have been carried out by suicide bombers, are thought to have killed 138 people and injured more than 500.

St Anthony's Shrine and the three luxury hotels where the blasts took place are in Colombo, and are frequented by foreign tourists.

Early reports suggest nine tourists were killed in the blasts. The Zion Church in the eastern town of Batticaloa and St Sebastian's in Katuwapitiya, north of Colombo, were also targeted.

A seventh blast was recently reported in Dehiwela near the Sri Lanka capital.
