Harry Arter is open to returning to the Ireland squad again following last night’s 1-1 friendly away draw with Poland, it has emerged.

Ireland were in action on Tuesday evening in Wroclaw after a week of turmoil that saw a Whatsapp audio note by Stephen Ward — detailing exactly what happened between Roy Keane, Jon Walters and Harry Arter — being leaked to the press.

The audio message detailed Keane stalking the corridors and medical room of the Irish squad, berating Walters and Arter on a few occasions about injuries and verbally abusing them for not training, despite medical advice.

Arter rejected a call-up to the Irish squad for the Nations League opener against Wales and the Poland game.

But it is reported that he has now contacted peace-maker Seamus Coleman and Martin O’Neill to discuss a potential return.

While O’Neill admitted the Keane incident was a factor in Arter’s decision, it was not the only reason he did not join up with the Boys in Green in this international window.

O’Neill said Arter’s loan move to Cardiff City had thrown up a few personal and professional situations that Arter needed to iron out too.

With Arter open to a return, he will have to meet Keane first to sort out their differences.

With two forgettable Ireland performances in the last week, Arter’s Premier League pedigree means he is almost a must to have back in the fold with so few top-flight players on offer for O’Neill.

Seamus Coleman was the peace-broker in the latest development and has built bridges to ensure the Cardiff man is welcomed back with open arms at some stage, and after a Keane meeting.
