Toyota has just unveiled the Yaris sedan which will take on rivals like the Honda City, Maruti Ciaz and the new Hyundai Verna. Essentially this will plug the gap between the Toyota Etios and the Corolla Altis. The Yaris will come to India in April of 2018 and will intially have a 1.5 petrol only. The Yaris is an above 4m sedan with a long wheelbase much like sibling the Corolla. The focus is on space and comfort.

The styling though is just as edgy and aggressive like the Corolla Altis and thankfully not as bland as the Etios. The front is the most distinctive bit with large Corolla like headlamps and a massive lower chin. The way the foglamps and the DRLs are blended in to the bumper is distinctive and attractive as well.

The interiors are more interesting also with focus on space but design is aggressive now and not bland. The centre console is the talking point with a massive screen and climate control while the steering wheel controls look like the Camry. Features are top-notch like 7 airbags, tyre pressure monitoring system, powered drivers seat. Space is excellent and that will make it a big challenger to the likes of the Honda City. The 1.5l petrol comes will come with a 6-speed manual or CVT gearbox. All in all this aims at the Honda City and it does look promising.
