A new year is on the horizon, and talk is now turning towards the first big motor show on the international calendar: the 2017 North American International Auto Show - also known as the Detroit motor show.Opened in 1899, Detroit's big show lays claim to being the second oldest event of its kind, with only the one year-older Paris motor show outdoing it. (The New York motor show followed in 1900.)

This year's show will run from January 8 to January 22, and CarAdvice will be on the ground for all the big unveilings.

As with last year's event, it is believed that some manufacturers will skip the Detroit show, with many choosing to focus on the Los Angeles and New York events.Porsche is one that has confirmed it will not appear at Detroit, and Fiat Chrysler is understood to have chosen the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas over Detroit for a big technology unveiling.

What can we expect? The current list is show, and a full calendar of confirmed unveilings is still to come, but a number of expected standouts have been announced - or hinted at. See our running list below.
