A Land Rover belongs off the road and not on it. That is a statement born out of the rich heritage it has of making some of the most capable off-roaders out there. Now days its SUVs are no longer utilitarian but also luxury cars so if your spending vast sums of money on a Land Rover should you take it off-road? Yes cause it is easy thanks to a vast array of electronics. However to increase awareness on this, Land Rover also does events like the 'The Above and Beyond' tour where with experts at hand, you get an experience of driving a Land Rover through various scenarios like slush, flooded roads, steep inclines plus what not. These experiences are important as then you can explore the off-road capability of these SUVs. Yes, SUVs should not be subjected to the concrete jungle only as with something like a Land Rover- you have so much tech that off-roading is easy as I found out.

One of their flagship models like the Discovery- which is a big luxury SUV, is also a pukka off-roader with capabilities like a huge ground clearance of 283mm, approach angle of up to 34 degrees, a break-over angle of 27.5 degrees and departure angle of 30 degrees, 900mm wading depth plus a two-speed transfer box as standard with selectable high and low range gears. There is also a plethora of tech like the All-Terrain Progress Control or the Land Rover staple, Terrain Response where the car adjusts the various functions like throttle, braking etc to suit the type of terrain like Grass, Gravel and Snow; Mud and Ruts; Sand etc.

Thus all this means you can literally just drive through an off-road course with utter nonchalance as I found out. The Discovery is just terrific as it just goes over everything with ease. The tech gives you the confidence and ease to push it as it acts like an envelope to be there when things might go awry or scary. The massive amount of electronics on board makes you able to enjoy the thrill of off-roading and exploring.

Slush, rocks? It just goes. Not even once I got stuck or even heard the noise of expensive metal crunch. That is the thrill and that is the real deal. Thus be it the Discovery Sport, Discovery or Evoque- any Land Rover, we should explore the capabilities of these SUVs- exactly why the off-road experiences by Land Rover help you do that. After all SUVs belong here and not at all times in the concrete jungle.
