In terms of styling the new Ciaz can be easily identified from the front and it is now more edgy plus muscular. In front of the new Ciaz the earlier one lacks the excitement and aggression being a bit plain. You can see the changes in the new Ciaz like the new grille and bumper with more chrome. There are also LED auto projector headlamps with DRLs and LED foglamps. New 16 inch alloys with a grey finish are also part of the changes at the front. The rear meanwhile stays more or less the same as the earlier one but has new LED tail-lamps and tweaked bumper.

Interior and features

The basic design is the same but to be honest it did not need much changing in the first place. What has changed is the new light coloured wood grain accents plus glossy textures are sprinkled. There is chrome added on the dash. Elsewhere the big change is the new 4.2 inch TFT instrument display. There is also an eco indicator which changes colour according to driving pattern.

In terms of features the Ciaz finally gets its due as the flagship sedan in the Maruti range with features like cruise control and auto headlamps while like earlier it has the Smart Play infotainment system with all the usual features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto plus rear camera display etc. In terms of safety it has high speed alert, dual airbags standard, ESP and Isofix etc. Space continues to be a strong point and does not change with excellent leg and headroom.

The 1.3 diesel with SHVS tech remains which has a phenomenal mileage of 28.09 kmpl. The big news is that the old 1.4l petrol is gone and replaced by a 1.5l unit. This new petrol engine develops 104 bhp and 138 Nm. It also has the fuel efficiency enhancing tech. Dubbed as the first Smart Hybrid petrol sedan the new Ciaz has a new dual battery system with start/stop function, brake regeneration and torque assist function. Which means in petrol manual form with 21.5 kmpl it is the most efficient petrol sedan. The petrol also has the 4-speed auto variant with hill hold function added.

Prices start at Rs 8.2 lakh for the base petrol Sigma and go till Rs 10.9 lakh for the top-end petrol automatic Alpha. The Alpha petrol manual is Rs 9.9 lakh. The diesel base model is Rs 9.2 lakh while the top-end manual is Rs 10.9 lakh. Between the old and new the new Ciaz is about Rs 35-50k more expensive. To be honest the changes and the new petrol engine alongside the features upgrade makes it more than worth it. It is still cheaper than rivals and for sheer value it is hard to beat this car. The Ciaz was always good value but now it is even better.
