Next year, one of the biggest launches at the Auto Expo will be the new Maruti Suzuki Swift. This is one of the most popular cars ever launched in India. Despite being a decade old in our market, the car is still in good demand. In-fact, it was Swift which introduced the concept of premium hatchbacks in our market and since then the segment is on a continuous rise with Swift being the sales leader for a long time.

The new gen of Swift was recently being shown at the Geneva Moto Show which is one big car launch expected next year in our market. The Indian version of Swift will be exact the same as the Euro version of Swift apart from few changes. Styling-wise the new Swift will have a more aggressive and bigger stance than before. The car will have a big hexagonal front grille which makes the car look really attractive from end having sharp projector lamps with LED DRLs. The bumper also splits into two with a thin layer for the air-dam separating the front grille from the bumper.

This is a Maruti that is about kmph not kmpl. The fuel efficiency figure is not the most important number in this car but what power it makes. Yup, a first hot hatch from Maruti. We have been begging them for a Swift Sport since eternity and finally they have obliged but in form of a hot Baleno, christened as the Baleno RS. Maruti Baleno RS - should you buy it?

The side profile is clean and neat with a floating roof impression since the B and C pillars are blackened with rear door handles mounted in the window. The India spec Swift will surely have a higher ground clearance which though will impact the sporty side appearance but the new 16-inch alloy wheels will maintain the appealing stance. The rear styling will see a new spoiler and LED tail lamps.

The Indian Swift will also get all black theme inside with good quality of material offering more leg-room at the back with a bigger boot capacity making the new Swift more practical than before. The feature list will include MID, touchscreen infotainment system, push button start, electric foldable ORVMs, auto climate control and dual front airbags and ABS with EBD, rear parking camera and sensors etc.

As far as the engine line-up is control, the new Swift will surely retain its 1.2L K-series, 83bhp petrol engine which could also be offered with a CVT gearbox. The diesel unit is expected to be the same 1.3L, 74bhp Multijet diesel engine. This engine could also be offered with an AMT gearbox same as Ignis which is also using the same engine. This is yet to be seen if Maruti could bring the 138bhp version of Swift Sport in India or would they plonk the 1.0L Boosterjet engine in Swift.

The new Swift will be sold through standard dealerships since Maruti wants it to be a mass product with a wider reach which will make new Swift even more popular than before. The new Swift will not impact the sales of Baleno since it will be smaller in size available at a lower price. The new Swift will come only next year with an Auto Expo debut and while its compact sedan version, Dzire, will debut this year only which is exclusively made for our market.
