GST or Goods and Services Tax that has been put into action from 1st July this year has seen a mixed reaction where some industries have taken a negative impact while others have witnessed a benefit. For the Indian automotive industry which includes two-wheelers, four-wheelers and commercial vehicles, GST has proven to be beneficial for most segments.

With the list of automakers announcing price cuts in relation to Goods and Services Tax (GST) growing longer, here is a compilation of all the benefits and discounts you will be getting from the new tax regime.

What's in GST for car buyers?

Cars will be taxed at the top rate plus a cess in the range of 1% to 15%. Small cars will be charged 1% cess on top of 28% tax, mid-sized cars will attract 3% cess and luxury cars 15% cess on top of the peak rate. Read More

Tata Motors cuts passenger vehicle prices by up to Rs 2.17 lakh

Automaker Tata Motors on Wednesday announced a reduction in price of its passenger vehicles by up to Rs 2.17 lakh, making available the GST benefit to its customers. "Following the rollout of GST, we have decided to pass on the entire benefit to our customers. We are offering a price reduction of up to 12 per cent ranging between Rs 3,300 and Rs 2,17,000, depending on the model and variant," Tata Motors President, Passenger Vehicles Business Unit, Mayank Pareek said in a statement. Renault India announces price cut up to Rs 1.04 lakh

The GST price cut on Renault cars will range from Rs 5,200 and Rs 1.04 lakh. Previously, SUVs and cars larger than four metres were taxed at about 50 percent before GST, and have now seen a tax cut by 7 percent. Not just large cars, but smaller cars too have witnessed reductions in taxes. Small petrol cars which were earlier taxed at 31.4 percent will now be taxed at 29 percent and small diesel cars taxed previously at 33.4 percent will now have to pay 31 percent tax. Read More

Maruti Suzuki was one of many brands which announced pre-GST discounts on their line up. With GST now effective, Maruti has implemented price cuts of up to 3% on various categories in its product line up. Read More
