Saroj Khan found herself in the heart of a storm, after she commented on the existence of the casting couch in Bollywood. Many Bollywood celebrities have maintained a stoic silence over her statements.

At the teaser launch of Sanju, the Sanjay Dutt biopic, Ranbir Kapoor was asked about the existence of the casting couch. He said, "I've never faced it in Bollywood. But if it is happening, then it's very bad."

At a media event, Khan said that this had been going on for ages, and was nothing new. "This is going on from 'baba Adam's times', it is not new. Someone or the other always try to take an advantage of a girl. The government does it too, then why are we only behind the film industry? It provides livelihood at least. Does not rape and leave you. It is up to the girl, what she wants to do. If you don't want to fall into wrong hands, you won't. If you have art, why would you sell yourself? Don't take the film industry's name, it is everything to us," said Khan.

Khan's comment did not go down well with many celebrities. Telugu actress Sri Reddy, who has been protesting against the casting couch in the Telugu film industry said, "I lost respect for you, Saroj ma'am. Being an elder you should give a good path to young actresses. It is giving a wrong indication that you have to be a slave to producers," Reddy told ANI.

Even singer and performer Sophie Choudry is equally disappointed by Saroj Khan's remark. She wrote on Twitter, "WTH?!!!! So much respect for Saroj-ji as a choreographer but this is how she uses her position to protect girls?!!! If I didn't come from a financially sound background I would have returned to London within a month of being in mumbai because of "industry folk" who think like that!!"

Khan took a U turn and apologised for her comment, but it was already too late.
