Kollywood pays respects to Ramanarayanan

M Karunanidhi, Kamal Haasan, Sarathkumar, Vijayakanth, Nassar, Ilaiyaraaja, Goundamani, Sathyaraj, Kushboo, Jiiva were among the host of people who paid their last respects to veteran Tamil film director Ramanarayanan, who died on Sunday.65-year-old Ramanarayanan died at a private hospital in Singapore due to a kidney related ailment.The body, which reached Chennai in the wee hours of June 24, was kept for the public to pay their last respects.Mr. Karunanidhi said nobody could deny that Ramanarayanan was one of his brothers. "I could not even think a film industry without him. His death has left a void in the film industry", Karunanidhi told reporters."I extend my sympathies to his family, friends and brothers in the film industry", he said.Actor Vijayakanth recalled that he had featured in more than 10 films directed by the veteran director and described him as an affable person.He had directed films in many languages including Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Marathi, Vijayakanth said, adding, his demise was "an irreparable loss" to both Indian and Tamil cinema.Director Ramanarayanan holds the world record of directing over 125 films, the maximum number by a director.Beginning his career as a dialogue-writer in the Tamil film industry, Ramanarayanan has given several hits. Some of them include 'Kanne Radha', 'Soorakottai Singakutty', 'Veeran' and 'Sahadevan Mahadevan'.'Arya Surya' was his 125th film. He also headed the Tamil Film Producers Council for three consecutive terms. He has also received many awards including the state "Kalaimamani" award.Meanwhile, Tamil film industry has cancelled all the shooting and post production activities as a mark of respect to Ramanarayanan.
